Building on Existing Arguments - They Say / I Say Model
Through Google Drive, you will be assigned to a group based on your selected theme. You will be choosing three short pieces to analyze rhetorically in order to build your own argument. You will also be reading and evaluating the arguments of your classmates in your group.
YOUR SELECTIONS:
*One selection must be a "definition" piece, meaning the author is attempting to define/explain a concept.
*One selection must be an "evaluation" piece, meaning the author is evaluating an item, person, action, etc.
*One selection must be a "causal" piece, meaning the author is attributing something as the cause of something else.
These selections are not restricted by time, but they must all fall within your selected theme.
YOUR TASK:
*Using the "they say/I say" model, write a response to each of your selections. In your group folder, post your argumentative response to the piece along with a link to the original piece. You will create three separate Docs - one per selection. Please name your Doc as follows: "LastnameFirstnametype" Ex. WeathersbeeDawnCausal
*You are also required to comment on a minimum of one submission for all of your group members. You will do this directly on the Docs themselves. The comments will need to be a combination of you engaging in the presented argument as well as an evaluation of your peer's argument. These comments won't need to be long (just a few sentences), but they will require that you read the original piece as well as your peer's argumentative response to the piece.
You will be given three classes to work on this part of the assignment. Check your course calendar for specific dates.
FINAL SUBMISSION:
You will be given one class period to "clean up" the argument of your choice to submit to Google Classroom for scoring. Again, reference the calendar for all due dates.
