ACADEMIC LEADERSHIP ACADEMY – DIGITAL PORTFOLIO
According to Merriam Webster, a portfolio is "a selection of a student's work that is compiled over a period of time and used for assessing performance or progress." As part of your experience in ALA, you will assemble and present a digital portfolio that shows your mastery of essential academic and leadership skills. Though you will begin this portfolio your first year, it will be a "living" project during your tenure at Chapin High School. You will present it in draft form at the end of each academic year. As a senior, your final portfolio will represent your robust academic and leadership experiences in the ALA.
EXPERIENCES
Each year, in a prescriptive fashion based on the presentation of the Center for Creative Leadership components, you will select experiences that show your mastery of essential academic and leadership skills. You will be organizing these experiences using the Experiential Learning Cycle. Experiences should be chosen deliberately, that is, they should directly reflect important components of your learning and growth as organized by the specific skills acquired through the Center for Creative Leadership training. All experiences included must be accompanied by
1. a well-written description of the experience stated in your own words so that community members, parents, and other interested parties would understand the experience,
2. the sample experience artifact itself (text, image, video, ppt, etc), preferably embedded so that a user does not have to download content, and
3. a thoughtful what? and so what? detailing how the experience helped you grow academically and as a leader. (The now what? portion of the Experiential Learning Cycle will be addressed as part of your final presentation senior year, and should NOT be included with each separate experience.)
REQUIRED PORTFOLIO CONTENT (HOMEPAGE)
1) NARRATIVE RESUME
THIS WILL BE AN EVER-EVOLVING NARRATIVE ABOUT WHO YOU ARE PERSONALLY AND ACADEMICALLY, revisited every year. This paragraph will help us get to know who you are in terms of your interests both academic and extracurricular and what core values drive these interests.
2) LEADERSHIP PHILOSOPHY
THIS WILL BE AN EVER-EVOLVING LEADERSHIP PHILOSOPHY, revisited every year. (Consider this the introductory paragraph/thesis of your overarching understanding of leadership.) The sub-tabs (Leading Self, Leading with Others, Changing My World) will add specificity to the overarching leadership philosophy by focusing on the smaller aspects of leadership. Think of this also as an introductory/contextual statement to your culminating leadership presentation to achieve your CCL Leadership Certificate your junior year.
